Crawley Town Community Foundation hosts the club’s first National Citizen Service Programme (NCS) open activity day this Saturday on the ball court at the Checkatrade.com Stadium before Reds take on Wycombe Wanderers in Sky Bet League Two.
What is the National Citizen Service Programme?
NCS is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England. It helps you build your skills for work and life, while you take on new challenges and meet new friends.
It runs in the autumn, spring and summer. You’ll have a short time away from home and take part in a team project that will help your community.
Participants develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.
NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication. This programme is recognised by UCAS when students apply for further education, and supports schools to achieve an outstanding OFSTED achievement standard
NCS Launch Day this Saturday!
Team building/challenges will take place on the Checkatrade.com Stadium Ball Court from 1.30pm. Every 16-17 year old that completes an NCS Expression Of Interest Form will gain a free ticket to the game.
As well as the above activities, we have invited representatives from all Crawley / East Grinstead secondary schools to attend an afternoon of hospitality with Henry Smith MP and guest. We will present the programme, show the benefits it offers students and answer questions about NCS.
Our autumn programme will be delivered at Green Park Activity Centre in Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th October 2015. Back from the residential, we will be based in Crawley for the remainder of the week engaging with the local community and agencies from the public, private and voluntary sector delivering social action projects to help support the community.

“I was delighted to see at the end of last season that the Crawley Town Community Foundation were awarded the opportunity to run the National Citizen Service programme locally.
“National Citizen Service, launched by the Prime Minister in 2010, is aimed at 16 and 17 year olds, has helped them to donate over three million hours of volunteering to their local communities across Britain.
“It’s a pleasure to be working alongside the Community Foundation once again. Last year I also went along to the Kicks project in Bewbush, and was pleased to see the Foundation’s Easter Soccer School in Maidenbower a few months ago. And of course, our town really did get behind Crawley Capers, a project organised by the Foundation and Autism Sussex, who won a phone vote to be awarded £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions. I was delighted to mention the Community Foundation last year in the House of Commons, in recognition of the services they provide in Crawley.”
