Mark Yates gets behind extended BTEC diploma in sport
Now in the second year of our BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, our first wave of graduates will move onto university, work here with us at Crawley Town FC or fly off to America on scholarships in the summer of 2016.
We plan to develop the programme even further for September 2016.
Our Football Education Academy is 11-a-side team playing competitive games, where players scouted by Crawley Town FC’s Backroom Staff and will be able to train with the first Team.
Following the loss of our Academy, there has been a distinct lack in opportunities for young players to progress from grassroots to the club’s first team.
The Football Education Academy will allow young people the chance to study at Crawley Town FC, and have a realistic and direct route into the professional squad if they are deemed good enough.
Manager Mark Yates said: “This is a great opportunity for talented players in the local community to progress to the first team squad. I know the Community Foundation has worked really hard to re-establish the under 5 to under 16 Development and Advanced Centres.
“The introduction of the 16-18 age group via the Football Education Academy will be the final part of the jigsaw, and we are keen to look at introducing local home-grown players into the squad.”
Any student who doesn’t quite make it will still have the chance to leave with qualifications equivalent to three A Levels, and opportunities to go on to university, work in the sports industry or fly off to the United States on a scholarship programme with the BTEC qualification.
We have an Open Evening here at The Checkatrade.com Stadium on Thursday 14th January at 6.30pm for prospective students and their parents. Manager Mark Yates will be in attendance to help explain the benefits of the course.
