Boss puts a fresh spin on things ahead of busy Christmas programme

Mark Yates is mixing things up this week as Reds prepare for the hectic Christmas programme.

As well as normal training sessions, the squad were put through their paces on the spin bikes for an hour at Nuffield Health Gym in Worth earlier this week.

The boss got the players and staff to take part with Nuffield fitness instructor Steve Trussell, who was physio at the club during the early days of the Steve Evans era, leading the session.

Mark said: “At this stage of the season the players are all pretty fit. Our lads work extremely hard when they are here but sometimes it’s good to mix things up and do something different.

“It was a high-intensity session which Steve put on and I think the lads needed to get a good sweat on. They got back from their Christmas party in Dublin on Monday and it probably helped sweat out a few pints of Guinness!”

Mark added: “We have planned what the lads are going to do in terms of preparation and recovery for the next couple of weeks meticulously.

“Christmas is a great time if you’re a football fan but two games in 48 hours is not easy on the players so we need to do everything we can to ensure when we go into each of the next four games that the 18 players involved will be able to perform at their best.

“Things like going on the spin bikes, or doing a weights session, all help break things up a bit. The training ground at Ardingly is a bit wet at the moment which does restrict us a little bit but we’ve also been able to work at the stadium as well.

“After beating Dagenham we’re in a good place to attack the next four matches. Hopefully we can build on that result against Barnet this weekend. We’re not far away from being in touch with the play-offs and a good Christmas can help us in trying to attain that target.”
