Interim Manager Dean Saunders up against former club on Saturday
During a long and successful playing career Interim Manager Dean Saunders played for 12 clubs, including a successful 12 months with Saturday's visitors Sheffield United.
Dean arrived at Bramall Lane on December 2 1997 from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer and made his Division One (now Championship) debut four days later in a 2-1 defeat at Norwich City.
He scored his first goal for the Blades on December 13 in a 2-1 home win over Swindon Town and went on to score 12 goals in 32 appearances that season.
He made a further 23 appearances the following campaign and scored a further ten goals before leaving the club to play for Benfica in December 1998.
Dean said: “They are one of my old clubs so I know the passion there is for the club and (manager) Nigel (Clough) will be desperate to get them back in the Championship this season.
He’s built a very good squad and I think they still have a shout for automatic promotion, never mind the play-offs.”
