Defender impressed by his new team-mates
Darren Ward praised the contribution of his fellow defenders after he made an impressive debut in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against MK Dons.
A new-look back four looked to have held out for a famous win until the visitors scored their equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
But Darren, playing his first competitive game for eight months, was impressed with what he saw.
“I thought as a back four unit and as a team overall we defended really well.
“The defence was almost thrown together with me in for my debut, Banj (Lanre Oyebanjo) back after injury and Sonny (Bradley) going to left back. It’s not easy for it just to click but we soaked up
an awful lot of pressure and we tried our hardest to protect Matt Harrold in goal.”
Darren was also impressed with the atmosphere and volume from the Reds’ fans.
“Everyone – players, staff and the fans – put a shift in on Saturday and I’d like to thank the supporters for getting behind the team in the way they did. If we carry on as we did on Saturday there’s
no reason why we can’t start climbing the table.”
