Interim Manager looks ahead to Saturday's action at Highbury
Interim Manager Dean Saunders says hard work will be the key to climbing the League One table.
Reds head to Fleetwood on Saturday with Dean Morgan, who joined on loan until the end of the season earlier this week, in the squad.
Dean Leacock and Josh Simpson are close to a return to training but Conor Henderson and Brian Jensen are long-term absentees.
It’s 12 League games since our last win over Walsall but Dean has been encouraged by the three games he’s been in charge and said there were some positives to be gleaned from Saturday’s 4-1 loss at Rochdale.
“Once we get another win you will see a massive difference in all the players,” he said. “I know what’s it’s like – you wonder when the next three points is coming from but I don’t think we are far away.
“We’ve had another good week on the training ground, integrating the three lads we had already signed and then Dean Morgan on Thursday.
“So we’re going to Fleetwood in good spirits but the players know what we need to do to get that win which would lift everyone around the club. They need to work as hard as they can, be as disciplined as they can in all areas of the game and when the chances come make sure we take them.”
Although Morgan has been playing part-time football with Woking this season, Dean is happy to have a striker of his experience in the squad.
“He will need a bit of time to get up to speed fitness wise but when he gets on the pitch he will know what to do. We’ve brought a man into the squad.”
Dean added that he is looking to send some of the younger players out on loan before the end of the transfer window on February 2.
As for Fleetwood, the manager added: “They have done well in their first season at this level and it’s no surprise really because they’ve got some good players.
“It will be a tough game as they all are at this level. But we do need to go there and get a result and a performance which I know this set of lads are capable of getting.”
