Izale still looking to improve

Striker enjoying working with Dean Saunders

Striker Izale McLeod says he’s not too old to learn more about his craft, especially from someone like Interim Manager Dean Saunders who has scored goals at the highest level.

As he prepares to face one of his former clubs MK Dons tomorrow, the Reds’ top scorer says he is enjoying working with the new Gaffer.

“We’ve had a good week on the training pitch and he’s gradually implementing his ways,” said Izale. “We’ve had sharp, intense sessions.

“From a personal point of view I definitely still want to improve. The Gaffer has scored goals at the top level and if I can pick up little bits of advice from him which help me and the team then that’s great.”

Izale missed a second-half penalty in the 2-0 defeat at MK Dons in August, but he is confident of a better result on home soil.

He added: “They have lost the last two so it might be a good time to play them, although I expect them to be up there at the end of the season.

“But it’s all about what we do, especially on our own patch. If we work hard and put into practice what the Gaffer wants us to do we are a match for anyone.”
