Defender delighted to get his first goal for the club in vital victory

Ryan Dickson admits his first goal for the club could not have been better timed.

Ryan scored our first against his former team Colchester United on Saturday and further goals from Gavin Tomlin and Izale McLeod’s penalty secured a 3-2 win which lifted Reds up to 22nd ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Port Vale.

Ryan said: “I’m delighted to get my first goal. Lewis Young put in a terrific cross and I gambled at the far post and managed to stick it in.

“I thought we deserved to win. We always looked a threat going forward and then, at the end, when they won loads of corners and free kicks we stood up to it.”

Reds have now won three of their last six and go to Vale Park on Tuesday in good spirits.

“We have to go there and back up today’s performance with another good display,” he added. “We’re dragging other sides into the relegation mix now with ten games to go.”

Ryan also paid tribute to the 294 fans who travelled to Colchester and gave the team such brilliant backing.

“It was fantastic, all the boys commented on it afterwards," he said. "They really got behind us and I’d like to thank them for their support. It went a long way towards helping us get the result.”
