Reds sign striker Cofie

Former Manchester United forward joins on short-term deal

Reds have today completed the signing of former Manchester United striker John Cofie on a short-term one-month contract.

John, 22, comes to the club having been with Norwegian League outfit Molde FC for the first half of this season.

He was signed by United from Burnley at the age of 14 but never made a first-team appearance at Old Trafford.

The Ghanian had loan spells with Royal Antwerp and Sheffield United whilst at United before joining Barnsley last season.

Manager Dean Saunders said: “John was a free agent and he’s a player I have been aware of for some time. He’s got a lot of natural talent and he's been with us for a few days now and has fitted in well.

“This is a new challenge for him back in England. I’m excited to be working with him and I’m convinced he can make an impression at this level. He gives us another option up front at a crucial stage of the season.”

John will wear no.31 and could be in the squad for Saturday's game against Gillingham, international clearance having now been received.
