Mixed fortunes for Donnelly and Yorwerth

Liam Donnelly captained Northern Ireland under-21s in last night’s Euro Under-21 qualifier but was unable to lead them to victory against Macedonia.

Despite taking the lead they went down 2-1 at Glenavon’s Mourneview Park and have yet to record a win in their qualifying group so far.

Donnelly, who is on loan from Fulham with Reds, had a hand in the goal when his header was touched home by Watford midfielder Josh Doherty.

But Macedonia won the game with two goals in the second half.

The Irish’s next fixture is against France on November 12.

Meanwhile, defender Josh Yorwerth, who is on loan with Crawley from Ipswich Town, helped Wales’ under-21s maintain their unbeaten start to qualifying with a goalless draw against Denmark in Aalborg. Their next qualifier is against Armenia in Bangor on November 13.

Both Liam and Josh will be back with the Reds’ squad on Thursday to prepare for Saturday’s home game against Luton Town in Sky Bet League 2.
