Lanre Oyebanjo (knee) and Jon Ashton (ankle) all sidelined with injuries, but Gavin Tomlin and Joe McNerney could make their comebacks after injury.

: "We have a few players missing for one reason or another but the squad is bigger in terms of numbers now so I won't have any problem making one or two changes and seeing if the lads who come in can take their opportunity. The league is obviously our priority but wins in whatever competition breed confidence and if we can cut out the basic mistakes that have been plaguing us we can definitely get a result."

WE’VE MET BEFORE?
Back in 2011-12 the teams met three times with honours even. In the league, Reds beat Southend 3-1 at home but drew 0-0 in a televised game at Roots Hall when Billy Clarke missed a second-half penalty. Southend beat Reds 1-0 in the JP Trophy, also at home, that season.
