Defender Mitch Hancox arrives on loan from Birmingham City

Reds have today completed the signing of defender Mitch Hancox from Championship club Birmingham City on a a month's loan.

The 21-year-old goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s trip to Home Park to play Plymouth Argyle.

Mitch joined the Blues in 2012 and made his Championship debut in October 2012 against Huddersfield Town. He has since made 33 appearances for the club, either in central defence or at left back, including one this season against Gillingham in the Capital One Cup.

Manager Mark Yates said: “I have been asking Gary (Rowett, Birmingham manager) about Mitch for a while and I’m delighted he’s agreed to let Mitch come to us. I just feel we need a bit more experience and physicality in the back four. On Tuesday we had a back five, if you include Freddie, of two 18-year-olds, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old.

"That’s a very young defensive unit at any level. We are looking forward to working with Mitch and I know he's really happy to be joining us so he can get some games under his belt."

Mitch has been given squad number 24.
