New midfielder keen to play his part for Reds

New signing Ross Jenkins can’t wait to get back on the pitch after signing for Reds until January.

The 24-year-old midfielder played nearly 100 games in the Championship for Watford before spells on loan at Plymouth and Barnet.

His last League game was in April 2014 and since then Ross has had a short spell in America trying to earn a contract with MLS side Chicago Fire.

This season he went on trial with Wigan and Gillingham before linking up with Crawley three weeks ago.

He impressed Mark Yates in the friendly against Fulham a fortnight ago and has been training hard with the squad since then.

Ross said: “I’ve been here for nearly three weeks and I’ve really enjoyed being back in a club environment again.

“I know Youngy (Lewis Young) and Bobson (Bawling) from my time at Watford so that has helped me settle in.

“We have got a good group of lads here and I’m raring to go. If the manager picks me for Saturday’s game I will be ready.”

Ross describes himself as a central midfielder who likes to be on the ball as much as possible and bring players into the game.

“I have played a lot of games as a defensive midfielder who likes to get the ball and give it to players who can work their magic! But I will play wherever I’m asked.

“When I was at Watford I had spells with Plymouth and Barnet on loan so I know what League 2 is about but from what I’ve seen we have got some good footballers at the club.

“I’m raring to go and I can’t wait to be involved.”

Manager Mark Yates said: “Ross has impressed us since he came into the club a few weeks ago.

“He’s a really good footballer and against a strong Fulham side a couple of weeks ago he really stood out. We want to be as strong as we can down the middle of the park and he gives us another very good option.”
