Jimmy: Not like us

12 September 2015

Midfielder reflects on an unacceptable performance at Mansfield Town

Midfielder Jimmy Smith agreed that Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Mansfield was unacceptable.

Reds suffered their first loss on the road in SkyBet League Two this season and finished with ten men after Gwion Edwards got a straight red which will mean he misses the fixtures against Yeovil, Notts County and Accrington Stanley.

“That wasn’t like us,” said Jimmy. “We haven’t played for a fortnight in a competitive game because of the international break but that’s no excuse. We started slowly, gave the ball away too much and made some poor decisions.

“We have worked hard this season to make ourselves a team that is hard to break down but we conceded some soft goals. Everyone has to accept responsibility, we know that.

“It’s going to be a hard week on the training ground but we have to be prepared for that. Two of our next three games are at home and we need to produce a big response on Saturday against Yeovil.”
