Reds sign midfielder Jenkins

Mark Yates delighted to sign former Watford player

The club are delighted to confirm that we have signed former Watford midfielder Ross Jenkins on a contract until January, subject to Football League ratification.

The 24-year-old began his career at Vicarage Road in the club’s academy in 2007 and a year later he made his first-team debut in a League Cup tie against Bristol Rovers.

Ross went on to make 95 appearances, mostly in the Championship, for Watford and had loan spells with Plymouth Argyle and Barnet during that time.

After he was released by Watford in June 2014 Ross spent time in America, where he had a trial with MLS side Chicago Fire, before he spent time with his old Watford boss Malky Mackay at Wigan and then Gillingham at the start of this season.

Manager Mark Yates said: “Ross has got a good pedigree in the game and you can see that in the time he has been with us over the last couple of weeks.

“I think he’s an excellent player who can operate anywhere in midfield. Obviously he wants to be playing in the League again and we’re pleased to have him with us. He give us another option in that area of the team.”

Ross will be available for Saturday’s Sky Bet League 2 game against Yeovil Town and has been given squad number 22.
