Crawley Old Girls take on AFC Wimbledon

Last Saturday our COGS (Crawley Old Girls) descended on the Cherry Red Records Stadium to take on AFC Wimbledon's older ladies group. The match marked one year to the day since COGS was set up, and with a shiny cup up for grabs it was all to play for.

With 13 players making the trip, the ladies played three seven a side matches and were unlucky to lose 3-0, largely due to some fantastic saves from the AFC goalkeeper. It was a great effort by the ladies, considering the experience of the opposition.

As ever, all matches were played in high spirits with plenty of laughter. After the game, many of the group stayed on to watch the big match and to reflect upon the huge achievements of the past year. With several key moments, including a visit from England star Jordan Nobbs and playing in the finals of the FA People's Cup, it has certainly been an eventful 12 months for COGS. The aim now is to build on the growing momentum and get older ladies participating in football.

On that note, COGS are preparing for more fixtures and the possibility of a summer tournament involving other older ladies groups.
