Jimmy: Great to be back

13 April 2016

Midfielder delighted to return to action

After more than three months on the sidelines with a broken foot, midfielder Jimmy Smith was delighted to return to action on Saturday when he came on in the second half of the home defeat to Oxford United.

Jimmy suffered the injury during the 3-0 loss at Portsmouth on January 2 when he played for nearly 20 minutes without realising he had broken his foot.

He said: “It’s great to be back, although the result on Saturday was very disappointing.

“It’s been a frustrating three months. I had the protective boot on longer than I expected but I’ve had great support during my rehab from the medical staff and management and my family. I just wish there were 15 games left instead of five, I’m desperate to play as much as I can between now and the end of the season.”

The squad held a lengthy inquest into Saturday’s defeat earlier this week and will be keen to put things right at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

“That’s unusual for us to be so open and concede five – we can’t allow it to happen again and it won’t,” added Jimmy.

“We’ve got two tough games coming up at Wimbledon and Northampton but these are the matches we should be looking forward to. We’re safe next season so there is no pressure but that’s no excuse. We’re professionals and have pride. We want to finish the season strongly.”
