Crawley Town take part in their first ever Kicks Cup tournament

Crawley Town Community Foundation took a team of Kicks participants to their first ever Kicks Cup event in Nottingham last week. After a very early meet at the Checkatrade Stadium, CTCF travelled with two teams from Brighton & Hove Albion in the Community.

CTCF were placed in Group C alongside Manchester United, Leeds, QPR, Watford, Oldham and Swansea. After a quick briefing session with all managers, the team kicked off their first ever Kicks Cup match against Leeds United. In what was a tight affair CTFC narrowly lost 1-0.

Some brave performances followed, but with some fantastic football displayed by all teams in the group Crawley unfortunately did not make it through to the knockout stages of the competition. However, that wasn’t the end of the event, as the day ended with a friendly fixture against our new friends from Leeds United, which was played in high spirits. The boys were also able to experience multisport activities, workshops and football freestyling.

As the first ever club team to enter the event, Crawley Town are proud of their achievements and the attitude they displayed throughout the day. Aaron Conniff Broome, lead Kicks coach who supported the boys, said: “The lads had a great day. They came home with their heads held high and never lost their cool. They represented the club admirably and should be very proud of their achievements.”

Kicks sessions run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Bewbush and Friday evenings at the Checkatrade Stadium 3G ball court. For more information, and to get involved, contact Amy Fazackerley, Community Development Coordinator at amyfazackerley@crawleytownfc.com or on 01293 410000.
