Defender reflects on defeat to Notts County

Joe McNerney picked up his second man of the match award from sponsors Best Contract Cars on Saturday, but admits it was only a small consolation after Reds surrendered their unbeaten League record with a 3-1 home loss to Notts County.

Joe told Reds PlayerHD: “We were obviously disappointed afterwards. I think we could have done better with all three of their goals and as defenders that’s frustrating – I didn’t think there was a lot between the teams to be honest.


“At 2-1 to them we had some good chances. In fact we created probably more clear-cut chances in the game than any other this season so that’s a positive.


“I think we tried to play it the way the manager wants us too and I feel that our fans appreciate that as well. But we have to cut out the mistakes. We’ve been pretty good as a team defensively this season and need to get back to that.”

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Joe. “We’ll recover today, work on a few things on Monday and go again. It was very hot on Saturday and hard work.


There’s some good games to look forward to in the tournament though and it’s an evening game – so hopefully it will be a bit cooler too!”
