Positives for Payne

Midfielder reflects on decent display at Molineux

Josh Payne emphasised that there were plenty of positives for the Reds to take following Tuesday evening's 2-1 defeat to Wolves at Molineux in the first round of the EFL Cup.

After falling behind to a sixth minute goal from Joe Mason, the Reds got themselves back into the game almost immediately through Enzio Boldewijn and had chances to go in front before Conor Coady's 76th-minute header won it for the Championship side.

Reds Player.“We’re disappointing not to go through but we showed great passion again," Payne told

“There were chances we could have taken and then it’s a different game and in the second half we were on top.

“I thought we mixed up our approach when we needed to and constantly created chances.

“I never doubt the character of this team – the manager has drilled it into us that we’re together as one.

“But we’ve come a long way and there’s 17 new boys and we’re still gelling - now we kick on to Doncaster on Saturday.”
