Head Coach challenges squad to build on back-to-back wins

Head Coach Dermot Drummy says Reds will approach the hectic festive programme full of confidence as they look to build on wins over Crewe and Newport County.

On Boxing Day, Reds go to Leyton Orient (1pm) before making the long trip to League 2 leaders Plymouth on New Year’s Day.

We then host Yeovil on January 2, kick off 3pm.

Dermot said: “The boys have had a couple of days in Dublin – with Matt Gray acting as chaperone! – and now we’re building up to a busy period but one we are really looking forward to.

“We’ve in decent form but we will need to be at our best because we’ve got three tough games coming up.”

The key to Reds recent improvement – Saturday’s 3-1 success against Newport was our third win in four games – is cutting out errors, according to the boss.

“I have always believed we have the attacking quality to hurt teams, especially when we got players like Jordan Roberts, who gives us such good balance, fit again.

“What we needed to do is cut out the mistakes. Defensively we have looked more solid in the last two games and the work ethic throughout the team has been excellent.

“The Crewe performance was our best of the season away from home. That set the standard. We changed our tactics slightly and played very well as a team when the opposition had the ball. Crewe set the template – we need to try and reach those standards again both at Orient and down at Plymouth.”

Advance tickets for Orient are available until 12.30pm on Friday. For more information click here
