Midfielder looking to make a big impression during his loan spell

Midfielder Chris Atkinson is looking forward to showing Reds’ fans his qualities after joining the club on loan for a month.

The 23-year-old former Huddersfield player has joined us from League One Crewe and will wear squad no. 11 during his stint with us.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “I played regularly for Crewe up until December but the manager changed things and I found myself out of the team.

“I knew on Monday there was the chance to come here and I had no hesitation. The lads have been brilliant since I arrived – so welcoming and that always helps you settle when you’re on loan at a club. From what I can tell there is a great team spirit.”

Facing Reds is nothing new for Chris. He played in both meetings with Crewe last season, which both ended in draws, and he also played against Reds for Tranmere in August 2013 at Prenton Park when the sides shared six goals.

“From my experience Crawley teams have always tried to play good football,” he said. “I would describe myself as a central midfielder with a lot of energy who hopefully can contribute some goals as well.

“Hopefully I will be involved against Notts County on Saturday. I played an under-21 game for Crewe against Coventry on Monday so I feel fit and sharp and ready to go.”
