Midfielder joins on a month-long loan
Reds have today signed midfielder Chris Atkinson on a month’s loan from Crewe Alexandra.
The 6ft tall 23-year-old has been registered in time to be available for selection for Saturday’s home game against Notts County.
Chris started his career with home town club Huddersfield Town. In four years with the club he made 13 appearances but also went on loan to Darlington, Chesterfield, Bradford City and Tranmere to gain further experience.
He joined Crewe on a permanent basis in 2014 and has made 39 appearances for the club. He played in both games with Reds last season, which both ended in draws, and has played 16 times this campaign.
Manager Mark Yates said: “With Jimmy Smith out for a while we needed another option in midfield and Chris is a player who’s been on our radar for a while.
“He’s energetic and gets around the pitch well and he’s also composed on the ball. He needs to play first-team football and we’re hoping this loan will suit both ourselves and Chris. We’re looking forward to him being part of the group.”
Chris will wear squad no. 11.
