The signing was announced on Thursday morning, and means the Reds now have plenty of options in the goalkeeping positions.

"We're really pleased with Mitchell, I've known him since U14 level - he's good with his feet too and will be a great addition," he said.

"I know Mitchell's Dad (Mark Beeney ex-Brighton goalkeeper) too, and Mitch's pedigree is excellent. He lives a few miles from the club and now he has a good chance here.

"At this stage of his career it should be fruitful for us both."

The newest recruit at the Stadium has impressive pedigree. Mitchell has been a prominent figure for Chelsea at youth levels, and has been around the first team too.

"He's developed into a good goalkeeper," added Dermot. "We tried to progress him like that at Chelsea and he's one of the best I've seen in terms of his distribution.

"He's trained with good coaches at Chelsea with the first-team, and with names such as Petr Cech, so for us to have him with us is really pleasing. We think he can improve a lot with us."
