Reds unbeaten on opening day...

With the fixtures for the Sky Bet English Football League Two being announced tomorrow, we have a look back at how the Reds have fared in their previous opening day fixtures in the Football League.

The side’s record is an impressive one – the Reds have never lost an opening day fixture during their five campaigns in the Football League.

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season under Steve Evans, Crawley Town played out a 2-2 draw away to Port Vale.  A late equaliser from home substitute Louis Dodds denied the Reds all three points on their return to the Football League. Tyrone Barnett and Kyle MacFadzean were on target for the visitors on that afternoon.

The following year saw the Reds host Scunthorpe United on the opening day. The home side notched up a comfortable 3-0 win over their opponents, with a brace from Gary Alexander and a third from Jonathan Forte making sure the Reds got off to a good start.

The 2013/14 season also began at home for the Reds, and goals from Jamie Proctor, Mike Jones and Joe Walsh gave Richie Barker’s men an impressive 3-2 victory over Coventry City.

A year later, the Reds were victorious again – this time Izale McLeod’s late header was enough to give Crawley the three points in a 1-0 win in the first ever meeting between the two sides.

Last year Mark Yates’ men travelling to the Kassam Stadium to face Oxford United, where the game ended 1-1. Gwion Edwards’ header gave the Reds the lead before Danny Hylton’s equaliser shortly afterwards meant the points were shared.

Find out who the Reds will face on the opening day of the 2016/17 season here on our website tomorrow morning at 9am.
