Reds sign Mersin

Former Liverpool goalkeeper joins on two-year contract

Reds are delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin on a two-year contract.

Yusuf, 21, joins us from Turkish Premier League club Kasimpasa, where he was last season after joining them from Liverpool.

The 6ft 5in former Turkey Under-17 and Under-18 international from London began his career at Millwall before joining Liverpool’s Academy in 2010. While at Anfield, he played for the club’s under-18s and under-21s.

Head Coach Dermot Drummy said: “Yusuf has a tremendous pedigree in youth football and went from Millwall to Liverpool for a very substantial compensation fee.

“Things didn’t work out for him in Turkey as he'd have hoped but he got some valuable experience. He is a London boy and is delighted to be back in England. I think he’s probably got a point to prove.

“He’s in superb shape physically and he’s desperate to get started. We are going to have three goalkeepers, including Yusuf and Glenn Morris, at the club next season and competition for the shirt is

going to be very intense, which is want not just in that position but all over the squad.”
