New midfielder raring to go with Reds

New midfielder Josh Payne admits he can’t wait to get going after joining Reds on a two-year contract.

The former West Ham player is the fourth new signing made by Head Coach Dermot Drummy in the last ten days.

Josh said: “It’s brilliant to be here, I’ve met the manager before and it all looks very professional and I’m excited to be a part of it.

“The fans can expect a creative player, I work hard and I’m passionate. I’m looking forward to showing what I can do and to exciting times for Crawley.”

Josh came through West Ham’s academy and signed his first professional contract at the age of 18. He made his Premier League debut against Blackburn Rovers and particularly remembers a

League Cup tie against Millwall which was marred by a pitch invasion.

“That was interesting to say the least - people were running on the pitch and everything,” added Josh. “The atmosphere that night was incredible; to be a part of that on the pitch and such an

important occasion was amazing!"

After three seasons playing in the National League for Woking and Eastleigh, whom he helped reach the third round of the FA Cup last season, Josh is delighted to be back in the Football

League.

“I’ve played League Two before and to be back in the league is brilliant. I’m optimistic going forward because I can see the manager wants to try and play good football," said Josh.

“The new faces that have come in are good and I can’t wait to get down to work in pre-season and start gelling with the other lads.”
