Midfielder arrives on two-year contract

Reds have today signed former West Ham midfielder Josh Payne.

The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year contract after leaving National League Eastleigh at the end of the season.

After playing in the Premier League for the Hammers, where he signed his first professional contract at the age of 18, Josh subsequently played for Cheltenham, Colchester and Wycombe on loan from West Ham.

He joined Doncaster in 2010 and has since played for Oxford United, Aldershot, Woking and Eastleigh – for whom he made 42 appearances and scored five goals last season. In total, Josh has played more than 200 games in his career.

Head Coach Dermot Drummy said: “We’re delighted to have Josh at the club. He’s a combative, energetic midfielder who can also play. And from talking to him I know how keen he is to embrace a new challenge back in the Football League here at Crawley.”

Josh joins Enzio Boldewijn, Glenn Morris and Jason Banton, who have all signed for the club in the last ten days.

Josh said: “I’m delighted to be a Crawley player. Speaking to Dermot, he wants to play a style of football which I like and I’m really looking forward to being part of an exciting new era for the club.”
