Dean's debut delight

Midfielder reflects on winning start to Burgess Hill loan spell

Dean Cox was delighted to make his competitive return to action on Saturday with Ryman League Burgess Hill.

The Reds midfielder, who is not able to play for the club until January 2 because he was signed outside the transfer window, has joined the Hillians to get match sharpness, as well as training with the rest of the Reds squad during the week.

Dean made one of the goals as Burgess Hill beat Leatherhead 3-2, with a number of Crawley fans who didn’t make the trip to Hartlepool there to see him in action.

Dean said: “It was just great to be playing again. It was my first competitive game since August 27 which is more than six weeks ago. I’ve been training with the rest of the Crawley squad since the start of the month which has been great but there’s nothing like a game to get you going.

“I really enjoyed it. There were quite a few people I know in the crowd and the main thing was we won. (Burgess Hill manager) Ian Chapman asked me if I was okay to play 90 minutes because I had the option of coming off but I was happy to carry on. I know Chappers from my Brighton days and the coaching staff too so it was like a bit of a reunion.

Dean will continue to play for Burgess Hill between now and the end of the year although he is not eligible for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Dover Athletic.
