Dean's delight

Midfielder can't wait to get started with Reds

New signing Dean Cox hopes to finish his career with Reds after agreeing to join the club.

The 29-year-old former Brighton and Leyton Orient midfielder will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract on Tuesday. As he was signed outside the transfer window, Dean is unable to play for Reds until January 2.

Dean told the official website: “I’ve always had a lot of affection for the club being based down the road in Haywards Heath. When John Gregory was manager I nearly joined but the finances didn’t work out but I’m delighted to be a Crawley player now – it’s like coming home in a way.

“I feel I have a lot to offer and I was really impressed with the vision the new owners have for the club long-term. I have signed for two-and-a-half years but the ideal scenario for me would be to finish my career here and help Crawley progress and grow as a football club. It’s a new challenge for me which I am really looking forward to.”

Dean’s best mate in the game is Reds’ captain Jimmy Smith.

“I speak to Jimmy a lot and he has told me that the club’s been transformed in the last few months,” added Dean.

“The club have invested in the playing side and the infrastructure and when I met (Head Coach) Dermot Drummy I was impressed with the way he wants to play. That was a big thing for me. I want to enjoy my football and make a contribution in terms of goals and assists.

“From what I have seen there are some good people at the club trying to take Crawley Town forward and it’s very much a long-term project.

“The only downside is I can’t play until January but I do have the option of going on loan and playing some non-league games. But I will be training Monday-Friday with the squad and the countdown to January 2 against Yeovil has begun. I’ve already got that game in my diary!”
