A look ahead to Saturday's game

Reds travel to Fratton Park on Saturday looking to pick up their third win of the EFL Two campaign.

Last Saturday the Reds suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 at home to Notts County, despite Enzio Boldewijn’s first league goal for the club.

The contest down on the south-coast is the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways in the league, following the 1-0 win over Colchester United in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Opposition dugout:

As has been the case since the club began life in England’s fourth tier in the 2013-14 season, Pompey began this campaign among the promotion favourites.

Paul Cook’s men hold an identical lead record to the Reds – with two wins, two losses and the one draw to date. Their last two league games have seen Pompey chalk up a 2-0 home win over Colchester United, and a 1-0 away win at Exeter City at St James’ Park – the same score-line that gave the Reds a win at the same venue last month.

Last Time We Met:

The last time the two sides met was two days into the new year. The game at Fratton Park ended in a 3-0 loss for Mark Yates’ men. First half goals from Marc McNulty and Matt Clarke handed the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break before a late goal from Gary Roberts sealed the win for Cook’s men.

Last August the game at the Checkatrade finished in a 0-0 draw. Freddie Woodman was in goal for the Reds that day and was in fine form – making a number of important saves to ensure the hosts picked up a point.
