The Carlisle connection

20 April 2017

Four ex-Reds could be in the visitors squad on Saturday

Seven previous meetings with Saturday’s visitors Carlisle have produced just one Crawley victory – and one of the goals that day was scored by a member of Carlisle’s squad this weekend.

Nicky Adams rifled home our second goal at Brunton Park in September 2012 when Reds, having taken the lead through Nathan Byrne, clinched a 2-0 success in the first Football League meeting between the clubs, although we have also played Carlisle in the old Conference.

The two Carlisle defenders trying to block Adams’ effort in the picture are Danny Livesey and Peter Murphy.

Nicky had 18 months with the Reds before joining Steve Evans at Rotherham United in January 2014. He then had spells with Bury and Northampton, whom he helped win promotion to League One last season, before heading to Brunton Park during the summer.

There are four ex-Reds in the Carlisle squad at the moment.

Another of them, Mike Jones, also played in that 2012 game. They have been joined since January by striker Jamie Proctor who, like Nicky and MJ, played for Reds for two seasons.

Jamie joined Carlisle on loan from Bolton in January and created their equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Stevenage on Easter Monday.

The fourth player with a Crawley connection is striker Shaun Miller, who had five games on loan with Reds during the 2014-15 campaign when he was a Coventry City player.
