Lee Swabey to officiate Saturday's clash with Cambridge United

Officials confirmed for second home game of the season

15 August 2017

Lee Swabey will take charge of Saturday's (3pm) game against Cambridge United at the Checkatrade Stadium, just as he did in January last year.

He oversaw the Reds' 1-0 win over the U's in the 2015/16 season.

Matt Harrold scored the only goal that day in the 36th minute to give his side all three points.

Swabey has so far refereed just one game this season, and that was Southend United's 2-1 League One win over Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season, in which he issued three yellow cards.

The Plymouth-born official was involved in 14 games last season, 10 of which were in League Two, three in League One and a single game in the Football League Trophy.

He brandished 59 yellow and three red cards throughout last campaign.

Prior to the 2015/16 season, Swabey had been refereeing in non-league, before being drafted in for Football League games in 2015.

He has taken charge of just two Crawley games in his career, both coming in the season before last.

The first was the Reds' 0-0 home draw with Wycombe Wanderers in August 2015, in which he handed out four yellow cards, one of which was to Jimmy Smith.

Five months later he was on the whistle for Crawley's 1-0 home win against this Saturday's opponents.

Saturday's assistant referees will be Robert Hyde and Adrian Tranter, whilst Matthew Lee is the fourth official.
