Milestone for Reds as we play 300th Football League game

27 December 2017

It was a disappointing outcome but there was reason to celebrate the Boxing Day game against Colchester United.

It was Reds’ 300th match as a Football League club, a journey which began back in August 2011 with a 2-2 draw against Port Vale.

So, you are no doubt thinking, how did we do in our 100th and 200th matches?

Well, game 100 in the League came in 2013-14 in our second season in League One. Our eighth match of the season was a 3-0 home defeat to Port Vale.

Match no. 200 was our 16th game of the 2015-16 season during Mark Yates’ spell as manager when Reds won 2-1 at Hartlepool United in a League 2 fixture. Our goals that day were scored by Rhys Murphy and Simon Walton, against his former club from the penalty spot.

The next milestone, our 400th Football League game, will be our 32nd match in the 2019-20 season which will probably take place round about February 2020.
