Karen Carney to attend training session on February 9

After the media storm of the last two weeks, the good news keeps coming for the Crawley Old Girls!

February, they will welcome Karen Carney, the England and Chelsea midfielder, and Steve Perkins, Elite Womens Coach for the FA, to their weekly session as reward for winning the FA #wecanplay Participation Award in November.thOn Thursday 9

Karen is one of our Lionesses and has over 100 caps for England. She was part of the squad who won the bronze medal in the Women’s World Cup in Canada, played for team GM at the 2012 Olympics and won a silver medal in Euro 2009. Karen was awarded an MBE in the new year’s honours list this year and currently plays for Chelsea Ladies in the FA WSL.

The #wecanplay Award is a National Award, given to organisations who demonstrate a significant contribution to grassroots football development. Both Steve and Karen will be on hand to deliver a high quality coaching session to the ladies, hear about how COGs was developed and  how it is inspiring so many women to take up the sport for the first time.

After a whirlwind few weeks, this is certainly another significant sign of progress for the COGS, who continue to raise the profile of ladies’ football and inspire so many to get involved.

On Monday they appeared on BBC1 South East's Inside Out programme - you can watch the feature on the BBC IPlayer - and on Tuesday three of the squad were guests on BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour programme.

February, 19:00-20:00 at the Checkatrade Stadium 3G pitch. thThe session takes place on Thursday 9
