Head Coach looking for a positive reaction at Adams Park
Dermot Drummy is looking for a positive reaction from his side when they visit Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park tomorrow (3pm).
The Reds suffered a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Morecambe last Saturday, and the Head Coach is keen to quickly erase the memories of a frustrating afternoon.
“The first half was very disappointing because the goals were poor on our behalf and you can’t let yourself lose a game before half time,” he told Reds Player HD.
“I don’t mind losing but not in that manner, we all needed to show more and now we’ve got a chance to do just that on Saturday against Wycombe Wanderers.
“We know it wasn’t good enough and now it’s what you we about it on Saturday."
Tomorrow’s opponents were the curtain-raiser fixture for Dermot’s new look side at the start of the campaign.
When asked about the progress he feels the club has made since the game in August, the Head Coach was keen to stress that it was the start of a long-term project that is still on track.
“It isn’t a quick fix – we’re running the club properly and we’re building here,” he added. “We have to improve, we know that we need to be more consistent but we also have to remember some really good performances this year too.
“Both myself and Matt (Gray) are working really hard to make this club better and when we have bad times we have to hold our hands up and go through them together.”
Looking ahead to the challenge posed by Gareth Ainsworth’s men, Dermot emphasised the importance of focus and concentration from the players for their fourth away game in the last five.
“We've got a unique challenge in dealing with Adebayo Akinfenwa and it’s important we deal with that. He is a fine player for them,” added Dermot.
“They’ll want a result too and every match is tough - there’s no easy game in this league. We need to go there and apply ourselves – we’ve shown that when we do that we can get results on the road and it needs to happen again.”
