Reds striker on competition for places in the squad and Saturday's win

Matt Harrold highlighted the competitive nature of the Reds squad after Saturday's 6-1 win over East Grinstead Town.

The striker played the second 45 minutes of the game, scoring twice, and feels that Head Coach Harry Kewell having plenty of options will benefit the group going forward into the new season.

"Since I've been here this is probably the largest squad we've had," he told iFollow Crawley.

"There's some really good players and plenty of competiton for places - but that's the way you want it.

"The manager then has to make decisions and everyone has to work hard to earn their place in the team."

Matt struggled with injuries last season - but signed a new deal a few weeks ago and was happy with being back out on the pitch in the side's first pre-season game.

"It felt good to be back out there and be able to work on my match fitness, because I didn't get a lot of that last season," he continued.

"It was all about getting your eye in and getting used to a match situation again and everyone got through it without any injuries so we have to be happy with that."
