PREVIEW | Portsmouth

A full look ahead to Saturday's game against the Blues

28 July 2017

The Reds host Portsmouth at the Checkatrade Stadium on Saturday afternoon in their final game of pre-season.

The League One side, now managed by Kenny Jackett, provide the last opposition before Harry Kewell’s men kick off their Sky Bet EFL Two campaign.

Wednesday evening saw the side pick up a late 2-1 win over Bognor Regis Town.

Fans are reminded that Devils Den will be open again from 2pm tomorrow and throughout the game for young fans over in the north-east corner of the stadium!

Reds Team news:

Harry Kewell has a full squad to choose from for the game against the Blues – apart from Jimmy Smith who remains side-lined with a thigh injury.

The Opposition:

The side’s most recent outing was a 2-1 defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth last Saturday – Conor Chaplin’s goal levelled after Lys Mousset opened the scoring. A second half goal from Benik Afobe gave Eddie Howe’s men the win in a south-coast derby.

Jackett’s side’s previous matches had seen them unbeaten – with wins over Salisbury City, Havant & Waterlooville, Poole Town, Bognor Regis Town and Newport (IW).

Summer business so far has seen Luke McGhee, Brett Pitman and Nathan Thompson arrive from Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth and Swindon Town respectively. Defender Tareiq Holmes-Dennis has also joined on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Town.
