Dutch striker Thomas Verheydt enthused he was delighted to put pen to paper on a three-year deal to join the Reds on Thursday afternoon.

The forward signs from MVV Maastricht and couldn’t hide his happines at completing the move to England.

“I’m really happy to be here,” he told iFollow Crawley.

“I always wanted to play in England and when I got the call from Crawley Town it was an easy decision to come here.

“Harry (Kewell) is a big name and he’s a good trainer too so I’m happy to be here.” 

The transfer is the first time the Dutchman has played outside of his homeland, but he insisted that moving and taking opportunities were part and parcel of the game.

“It’s always going to be difficult moving county but that’s just part of football,” he continued.

“England is the home of football, and it’s perfect for me.”

“I’m a strong player and I like to head the ball.

“I like to score goals and I work hard for the team too – they’re probably my biggest strengths.”
