Head Coach on squad and summer recruitment

Harry Kewell is excited by the Reds squad he has inherited ahead of the 2017/18 season as preparations continue for the new campaiagn.

The new Head Coach met the press for the first time at the end of last week and discussed potential summer business and the players he already has at his disposal.

"The recruitment process is on going and I’ve been working closely with people behind the scenes here – but in terms of what I see at the moment with player profiling in the group, I’m excited.

"There’s some real talent here, and the signing of people like Dannie Bulman only adds to that.

"He’s played a lot of games and shown that age is just a number, there’s a good mix of experience and youth within the side and I can see that the team has got a lot of potential."

In comparison to last summer's busy recruitment drive where the club welcomed over 20 new players - this off season has seen a more conservative approach with Bulman being the solitary new face so far.

"We’ve already got a lot of experience here and we’ll always bring people in if we feel like they’ll benefit the group.

"People can sometimes be quick to judge and say we need various things – the important thing is to first of all look at what you’ve got and from my first look I’m very happy.

"First impressions are very big for me and I’m more than happy to work with what we have here. I see a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm and I hear a lot of good things too.

"If we can bring a few new faces in then great, but if not then it’s not a problem for me."
