The Reds’ 2017-18 schedule was confirmed this morning and Harry Kewell’s side will begin their league campaign at home to Port Vale on Saturday 5th August at the Checkatrade Stadium.
The Valiants were the side’s first ever Football League opponents back in 2011 when the teams played out a 2-2 draw at Vale Park – a late goal from Louis Dodds denied Steve Evans’ men an opening day win after Tyrone Barnett and Kyle McFadzean had twice put the Reds in front.
The last meeting between the teams ended in a win for the Reds at Vale Park – Dodds’ brace for the hosts was in vain as goals from Anthony Wordsworth, Izale McLeod and Richard Wood meant it was the visitors who came out on top.
The first ever Football League meeting between ourselves and Forest Green Rovers will be on Saturday 11th November at the Checkatrade Stadium, with the reverse fixture away from home on Saturday 24th February.
Boxing Day sees us host Colchester United, before travelling to Huish Park to face Yeovil Town on New Year’s Day.
We travel to Cambridge United and host Swindon Town over the Easter Weekend, before our final home game against Crewe Alexandra is on Saturday 28th April.
The campaign will end with the same opponents as last season – Mansfield Town, although this time around it will be the Reds who’ll be travelling to the One Call Stadium to face the Stags away from home on the final day.
