The Reds picked up two wins out of their three matches in the month of January during the 2016/17 campaign.
The year 2017 began with a 2-0 home victory over Yeovil Town. Dean Cox made his debut for the club and provided an assist for the opening goal of the afternoon.
His corner from the right-hand side was headed home at the far post by Josh Yorwerth as the defender got his third goal of the campaign. James Collins added to the lead soon after during the first half when he converted a penalty after Enzio Boldewijn had been fouled.
Seven days later the club hosted the popular ‘Pay What You Can’ fixture at home to Hartlepool United, which attracted a crowd of over 4,500.
Cox was the provider again, crossing for Collins to head home from the centre of the area much to the delight of the home support.
The game scheduled with Portsmouth the following weekend was postponed and so the Reds had to wait a fortnight until their next game – against Notts County at Meadow Lane.
The side couldn’t complete a clean sweep of victories for the month and fell to a late 2-1 defeat. Thierry Audel gave the home side the lead, before Collins stylishly finished from long-range with an equaliser four minutes from the end of the game.
But Jonathan Forte fired home in stoppage time to deny the Reds a point and give Kevin Nolan’s side the win.
