Assistant Coach Warren Feeney is excited about working with Harry Kewell as the Reds' preparations for pre-season continue to take shape.

With the schedule for friendly matches nearing completion, the former AFC Bournemouth and Plymouth Argyle forward admitted he can’t wait for the games to start as he works with someone he knows very well.

“Harry is someone I know very well from my playing days with Leeds United and we’ve always kept in close contact so I know how we works and I’m here to support him,” he told the club’s iFollow service.

“It’s a challenge but it’s one we’re both looking forward to – he’s got his ideas about what he wants to bring and so I’m sure it will work well.”

“I’ve been in the division and know the league but Harry knows football – he’s played in World Cups and Champions League finals at the highest level. It’s a hard league but he’ll have his own ideas and I’m here to fully support and assist him in that.”

The Northern Irishman has now had a chance to assess the resources at his and Harry’s disposal since arriving at the end of May and is fully confident in the ability of the side the duo have inherited.

“There’s good players here – it was a very good start to the year last season and the results showed that,” he continued.

“We’ve recruited well so far this summer too and we’ll be looking to add to what we already have and we both just can’t wait to get out on the pitch and start working with them.

“We’ve got a good mix of games in pre-season against a variety of opposition, but the main thing is getting the team fit, you don’t want to peak in pre-season and so we just have to make sure the lads are ready for the first league game of the new campaign.”
