Big Joe signs new contract

Defender agrees two-year deal

Defender Joe McNerney has today agreed a new two-year contract with the club with the option for a third year.

The 27-year-old was signed from non-league Woking in July 2015 and has gone on to make 34 appearances for Reds, including 21 this season, despite missing much of his first season at Football League level because of knee surgery.

Joe said: “I’m delighted to have agreed the new contract and to know I have a long-term future at the club.

“I had some tough times last season because of the knee surgery and then I had to prove myself to the new manager in the summer.

“But I love being here. The fans have always been very supportive and I have improved as a footballer under Dermot, because of the philosophy he has implemented.

“Now my future is settled I want to try and help the lads finish the season as strongly as possible.

“We know we need to be more consistent but the squad is capable of doing that. We’ll all be working hard to kick on in the last 13 games and get ourselves as high as we can in the table.”
