"We owe it to everyone at the club to give a performance to be proud of"

Skipper with message to supporters ahead of Luton Town game

20 October 2017

Jimmy Smith penned this note to the fans ahead of the fixture with Luton Town this weekend.

First of all, we owe an apology to our fans who turned up for Tuesday’s game against Chesterfield.

The performance was unacceptable and after the game we had a long chat amongst ourselves and with the team management about how we can put things right.

We totally appreciate the frustration of our fans about our home performances this season.

Our home form has not been good enough but tomorrow would be a great game to start turning it around.

We owe it to everyone connected with the club to produce a performance to be proud of. There is no bigger test in the league at the moment than playing the leaders Luton Town, but the game at the Checkatrade Stadium is one we are really looking forward to.

Luton will bring a big support and I’m appealing to all our fans to come down and get behind your team. It’s one of our biggest games of the season and having your support makes all the difference. I have been here for four seasons now and I still get a massive buzz when I hear the fans behind the south goal in full voice and ‘Come on You Reds’ reverberating around the stadium.

We want to give you a performance to be proud of and to improve our home form.

The hard work starts tomorrow - please come down and get behind us!

Jimmy.
