Anthony Backhouse will referee this Saturday's game away to Morecambe at the Globe Arena.
The Cumbria based official has taken charge of 11 games so far this season across the EFL and it's respective competitions - issuing 31 yellow cards and four reds.
His most recent appointment was the League One game between Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers at Valley Parade last Saturday.
This campaign is his first in the Football League and the game with the Shrimpers will be his first in charge of the Reds.
He will be assisted by Mr Duncan Street and Mr Alf Greenwood - the fourth official is Mr Jonathan Hunt.
