"We know that was nowhere near good enough but we have to stick together"

Josh Payne's honest assessment of Tuesday's defeat to Chesterfield

Josh Payne was honest in his reflections on Tuesday evening's 2-0 defeat to Chesterfield at the Checkatrade Stadium.

The midfielder entered the action as half-time substitute replacing Mark Connolly with the scores level at 0-0, but the hosts conceded two second half goals as they fell to another home defeat.

"I came off the pitch feeling embarassed really," he admitted.

"I came on at half time but there was no real purpose to our play - we weren't holidng onto the ball at the top end of the field and we certainly didn't create enough chances.

"At times this season we've come away from games having created chances and not necessarily got results from games but tonight we can come away with absolutely nothing and everyone who was involved knows it."

Harry Kewell's men have been in fine form away from home so far this season, but their form in West Sussex continues to hinder their progress in the league following another defeat on Tuesday evening.

"It's not easy at times like this but we're in it together," he continued.

"We all want to go in the same direction but it is a tough time for us at home at the moment.

"The fans are coming here and wanting us to get results but it just isn't happening so we have to stick with one another to try and turn it around."
