Karlan: Great to score on debut and help us to important win

5 February 2018

New signing Karlan Ahearne-Grant insists results like Saturday are the type you can look back on as being key if you have play-off ambitions.

The victory away at Chesterfield on Saturday made it three wins in a row and seven in the last nine, moving Reds to within six points of the play-offs.

On loan from Charlton, Ahearne-Grant played a pivotal part in the win by finding the back of the net to equalise for the Reds, before Lewis Young scored his first ever senior goal in stoppage time to clinch a 2-1 success.

The versatile forward believes the squads character and Harry Kewell’s method of coaching are the reasons for our fine form.

“It’s a brilliant result at the end of the day,” he said. “At 1-0 down we showed great character and kept going and got the three points.

“I had a few good chances in the first half and I just had a feeling that I was going to get one. It was a great feeling to get a goal on my debut as well, that was brilliant.

“Harry Kewell makes you feel like you can play with freedom and I felt free on Saturday, I felt good. I made an early run in the first couple of minutes and I gained confidence from that, I just tried to keep going every time.

“The form that we’re in at the moment is outstanding, we just need to keep going, keep pushing forward. Results like this we can look back at as being vital if we get there [play-offs].”
