Five things to know ahead of Saturday's game against Lincoln

16 February 2018

The Reds are looking to bounce back following the defeat away at Luton on Tuesday, and a win on Saturday would be our 15th of the campaign. Reds haven’t won 15 League games in an entire season since 2012-13 in League One under Richie Barker. The following season (2013-14) we won 14 and in each of the last three we have won a total of 13 League matches.

Lincoln’s top League scorer is Matt Green with nine goals to his name this season. Green was previously at Mansfield Town, where he appeared 86 times in his three-year spell. He joined the Imps in the summer of 2017, signing a two-year contract with the newly promoted club. Fellow striker Matt Rhead has seven League goals.

Currently seventh in the table, Lincoln occupy the last play-off place but three points on Saturday for Harry Kewell’s side would cut the gap between the sides to two points. Danny Cowley’s side come into the game off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to Cheltenham on Tuesday.

One of the club’s best moments was undoubtedly last season’s FA Cup run. Lincoln made it to the quarter-final, where they took on Arsenal. They had previously beaten Ipswich, Oldham, Brighton and Burnley and became the first non-league side since 1914 to make it to the last eight, before being beaten 5-0 at the Emirates stadium.

Danny Cowley (pictured) remodelled the Lincoln squad at the start of the season, with various new faces being bought in. Former Premier League player Neil Eardley was signed, along with top scorer Green and the pair are among those to look out for on Saturday. They also recruited extensively during the January window, with former Peterborough midfielder Lee Frecklington among their signings. Michael Bostwick, who played for Reds during our Conference days on loan from Millwall, returns to the Checkatrade Stadium.
