Warren: We made hard work of Senior Cup victory

10 January 2018

Assistant Head Coach Warren Feeney admitted Reds made hard work of Tuesday’s win over Eastbourne Borough in the Sussex Senior Cup at Priory Lane.

Sub Dean Cox scored a stoppage-time equaliser to make it 3-3 and Thomas Verheydt won it 4-3 in extra time with his second of the game, a penalty awarded after Enzio Boldewijn had been pulled down.

Warren said: “There were some good individual performances. I thought big Thomas was excellent. He scored twice and their keeper made some great saves from him and others did well.

“But defensively we conceded some very poor goals and that is an area that individually and collectively we have to improve.

“I thought Eastbourne played well. They are obviously used to the surface more than us but we will be playing on one of those pitches again in the semi-final at Lancing so it’s good for us to get that game under our belts.

“We’re pleased to get through. We made hard work of it but we’re in the semi-final and as the manager has always said about the Senior Cup, it’s a competition we want to win.”
